The Hmong Xauv was one of my most dreaded piece of traditional Hmong wear. Mainly because it is sterling silver and weighs like 5-10 pounds… I wish I was exaggerating. My neck bone will ache even before we made it to the New Year’s Festival and half way through the day, I’d be holding my “xauv” on my neck with both hands. LOL.
But I’m so glad for this particular style as it distributes the weight of the “xauv” more evenly. There’s a back portion to the xauv that helps pull the weight towards the back as well instead of all concentrated in the front. (front, back)
