Blog’s been on a hiatus for a while. Thank you to those who emailed to check up on me. I was really touched! Didn’t think my little blog would’ve been missed. 😛
The past month has been busy in good ways and bad. Bad news first: I lost my grandfather-in-law. I never knew my grandfathers on my mother or father’s side. My paternal grandfather passed away when my father was still young and my maternal grandfather was never a presence in my life so when he passed away I was just sad that my mother was sad. So basically, my husband’s grandfather was my only grandfather. The days have been quite somber.
For the good news, I finally finished my 13 week Bible Study class and got to spend more time with family as well as valuing that time more. I tend to be very task oriented and focused on time…but I’ve come to realize that though those traits are good to have, they sometime drain the joy out of the time I spend with my family and friends. My husband is a people person and he can lose track of time if he’s in a good conversation. I can’t ever be like that. I realize that my watch is on me 24/7…I never take it off; I even make sure watches I buy are waterproof so I can shower and bathe with them on! Crazy right? I would always be glancing at my watch, making sure we weren’t late for the next thing on the checklist…but lately I have been able to enjoy everything a bit more. If something doesn’t get done, it can wait. I’ve been learning to savor my time with the people I love and appreciate the moment rather than always preparing for the future. It is definitely more joyful (not to mention peaceful) to be thankful for the blessings of the moment and have faith about tomorrow.
If you live in Houston or planning to visit anytime between now and January 10th, 2016, be sure to check out the Houston Magical Lights Festival. It’s gorgeous with large displays of Chinese-style lanterns representing several countries and landmarks of the world (PLUS Dinosaur land). Apparently, it’s the largest lantern festival in the U.S.! There’s also a carnival as well, complete with rides, games, and food. It’s a bit pricey at $27/person but if you purchase online Monday-Thursday, you can get 10% off your tickets with code “MAGICAL10.” There are discounts available for family of 4 or groups of over 20.
So yeah, enjoy the company of loved ones. Have fun and stay warm this Holiday season. 🙂
P.S. I will be visiting family for the holidays so will not have access to my craft area. My little shop will be taking last calls on orders until Friday 12/11 and then will be on vacation til mid January.
